(HUNTINGTON COUNTY) - Conservation Officers are investigating the fatal drowning of Jordan Laute, an 18-year-old from Marion, Sunday afternoon at Salamonie Reservoir beach.
Witnesses said Laute swam out past the roped barrier into deep water. Once they realized Laute was in trouble, they attempted unsuccessfully to locate him.
Huntington County dispatch took a 911 call at 3:20 p.m. Sunday, and sent divers from Huntington County to search for Laute.
Conservation Officers used sonar to locate Laute in 9' of water at 6:15 p.m.
Conservation Officers remind everyone to use flotation devices when boating, swimming, fishing or any other water borne recreational activity.
