Investigation Begins Into Warehouse Fire

Last updated on Tuesday, June 18, 2013

(INDIANAPOLIS) - The investigation into Saturday’s massive warehouse fire in Indianapolis is expected to begin today.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives has activated its National Response Team, which includes forensic experts, to assist IFD and IMPD with the investigation.

ATF Special Agent Dave Coulson says the first step is assessing the safety of the scene. He says once the scene is declared safe, investigators will go in, remove the debris left behind by the fire, and begin their investigation from the forensic side.

Coulson says once the investigation is complete, the results will be turned over to the proper authorities. Coulson says at this time, it's too early to tell what caused the fire.

The building's owner, Keith Sharp, has hired a demolition contractor through his insurance company.
