Homes Evacuated After Tanker Truck Overturns

Last updated on Wednesday, June 5, 2013

(CONNERSVILLE) - A handful of homes have been evacuated after a tanker carrying paint thinner overturned on a highway on the edge of an eastern Indiana city.

A police dispatcher says the tanker overturned on Indiana 44 at the top of a hill on the east end of Connersville about 7 a.m. Tuesday. Police didn't immediately know what caused the truck to tip.

No injuries were reported and there was no fire. About five homes in the area were evacuated and police sent a text alert to residents in a one-mile radius of the accident.

The dispatcher said the highway was closed while the spill could be cleaned up.

Traffic was being rerouted onto local roads around the city about 50 miles east of Indianapolis.
