Last updated on Thursday, June 6, 2013

(INDIANAPOLIS) - Gov. Mike Pence signed an anti-bullying bill into law Tuesday afternoon and said children should be able to go to school knowing they are free from harm and intimidation.

RTV6 reports that the anti-bullying bill modifies the definition of bullying and directs the Indiana Department of Education to develop certain guidelines to help school corporations establish bullying prevention programs.

The new law will also require schools to provide staff with training in anti-bullying measures.

Several children who were victims of bullying and mothers of victims were present for the signing.

They agreed this is a step in the right direction.

Pence said Tuesday was for Tori, Angel and Chelsea who are all victims of bullying. Tori and Angel lost their lives because of bullying.
