(SHELBYVILLE) - A former Shelbyville Middle School teacher has been acquitted on felony charges surrounding accusations of inappropriate relationships with students.
Bethany Appleton went on trial this week. Appleton was accused of having sexual relations with a 15-year-old boy at her home, and of providing teens with alcohol and marijuana. She was also accused of drinking and smoking marijuana with the teens. The alleged events occurred between April 2011 and May 2012.
However, the 29-year-old was acquitted Wednesday. She was found not guilty on all 13 counts, which included sexual misconduct with a minor, child seduction and contributing to the delinquency of a minor, all felonies.
Shelbyville Central Schools notified the Indiana Department of Child Services of possible misconduct by Appleton, prompting the investigation. The Shelbyville Police Department then launched an investigation, which involved the Shelbyville Police Department, Indiana Department of Child Services and Shelbyville Central Schools.
