(UNDATED) - Three finalists have been chosen for the position of Indianapolis Public Schools Superintendent, but we still don’t know who they are.
That should change soon, as IPS board president Diane Arnold said the three names would be revealed in a statement from the school district later today. The finalists were chosen from a list of eight semifinalists, which came from roughly 40 candidates presented to the board by a search firm last week.
The candidates to replace Eugene White will interview with the board Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Also, the public will have the chance to hear from each finalist at a forum on Thursday. IPS spokesman John Althardt says the board will vote to hire a superintendent Saturday morning.
The finalists will likely be asked how they will deal with a smaller staff. The IPS board meets tonight to vote on interim superintendent Peggy Hinckley's proposal to lay off 109 employees, including teachers, coaches and other staffers. IPS faces a $30 million dollar deficit, and Hinckley has said the layoffs will save the district about $10 million.
