(INDIANAPOLIS) - The Minton Capehart Federal Building in Downtown Indianapolis is back open. This after the IMPD bomb squad rendered a suspicious package safe.
Lt. Chris Bailey says authorities evacuated the building at Pennsylvania and North just after 2 p.m. Monday. He says that's when a woman, 39-year-old Christine Dennison, carrying a cardboard tube entered.
Bailey says federal security got suspicious about the package while running it through their scanner. When security officers asked what was inside, Dennison said it was fireworks.
Dennison was taken into custody and everyone in the building was evacuated including a day care center. The package was rendered safe it and it was determined that the package did contain fireworks.
Bailey says everyone is fine and they returned inside the building just before 4 p.m.
No charges have been filed at this time. Bailey says the FBI will follow up with any criminal investigation.
The building houses offices for the Internal Revenue Service, Social Security Administration, Veterans Administration and the Department of Homeland Security, among others.
