Dog Devours Man's Toes

(BRAZIL) - A Clay County man is resting at an Indianapolis hospital while the 6-month-old pitbull puppy that put him there is isolated by order of city police and under close observation for any sign of rabies or other illness.

Roger Brown, 46, of North Sherman Street in Brazil spoke with News 10 via telephone Wednesday afternoon and accepted complete responsibility for the bizarre incident overnight involving his dog, Bo.

The Brazil chief of police said that, according to a report filed by his department Brown awoke just before dawn Wednesday to a bloody left foot, two missing toes, and his pet pooch who'd obviously been gnawing at Brown's foot while he slept.

According to Brown himself, his dog Bo was able to chew off entirely his left small pinky toe, as well as the big toe on the same foot.

Brown, who's disabled and diabetic, also said the dog was additionally able to eat away a good chunk of the man's actual foot.

Brown told News 10 that after careful consideration, he was confident in his decision not to euthanize young Bo, but to continue raising and nurturing the beloved pet.

Brown admitted he has only himself to blame for the highly unusual encounter with his dog that's left him permanently disfigured. Brown elaborated that Bo was surely enticed by his slumbering master's exposed flesh wound, or blister, on his foot that Brown said is a result of his diabetes.

Brown further clarified he'd been treating and tightly wrapping his wound in nights past, but on this fateful night he was not as meticulous as usual.
