(JEFFERSONVILLE) - Closing arguments are slated to begin today in the capital murder trial of an Evansville man.
Jeffrey Weisheit faces the death penalty on charges of arson and murder after he allegedly set fire to his girlfriend's Evansville home in April 2010, killing her children, eight-year-old Alyssa Lynch and five-year-old Caleb Lynch.
Weisheit took the stand Monday against the advice of his attorneys and admitted to stuffing a dish towel into Caleb's mouth and then duct taping his mouth. He also admitted to taping the boy's arms behind his back but only because he had been misbehaving the night before.
Weisheit testified in narrative form, not taking questions from his attorneys. He has plead not guilty to setting the fire.
Both sides will have one hour for closing arguments before the case goes to the jury for deliberations.
