(INDIANAPOLIS) - The city of Indianapolis has paid $85,000 to settle a former employee’s lawsuit that her bosses discriminated against her because of her severe food allergy to paprika.
The Indianapolis Star reports that 27-year-old Emily Kysel was told three years ago that she could bring a golden retriever trained to detect paprika to her job as an analyst at the Department of Code Enforcement.
But when a co-worker suffered an asthma attack as an allergic reaction to the dog, the permission to bring the dog to work was withdrawn.
The city admitted no fault in the settlement. City officials agreed to training of Department of Code Enforcement employees in accommodating individuals with disabilities.
