(INDIANAPOLIS) - A child was rushed to the hospital after being struck by a vehicle on the Indianapolis west side Monday.

It happened in the 4100 block of Vandalia Ave. That's south of Washington St. and just north of W. Morris St.

The child was taken to Riley Hospital for Children, where he was listed in critical condition.

The Indianapolis Metro Police Department is investigating. According to police, the child was riding on an off-road trail with friends when he entered Vandalia into the path of an oncoming car.
