Caterers Displaced By I-69 Find New Hilltop Home

Last updated on Friday, June 21, 2013

(SPENCER) - Two longtime caterers whose Monroe County business was displaced by Interstate 69 have found a new home running another area landmark.

Dennis and Chris Grubb have taken over operations at the Hilltop Family Restaurant in Spencer. The popular restaurant first opened as the Skyland Lodge in 1948 and sits stop an Owen County hill on U.S. 231.

The Grubbs tell The Herald-Times they looked for a new business venture for 18 months after losing their Pic-A-Chic Farms business to the highway project. They say nothing felt right until they discovered the Hilltop and learned it was for sale.

They've installed new chandeliers to brighten up the restaurant but plan to keep many of its features the same.
