Blood Center Cutting Workforce

Last updated on Tuesday, June 4, 2013

(INDIANAPOLIS) - The Indiana Blood Center is cutting about 10 percent of its workforce across the state and making other cuts in response to decreased demand.

IBC spokeswoman Wendy Nehringer told WIBC that hospitals' demand for blood supplies has decreased by about 25 percent over the past year due to changes in technology and blood transfusion procedures.

To offset the loss in revenue, IBC is cutting 45 positions, closing its Avon donor center and cutting its number of mobile blood centers by half.

IBC will still employ about 380 people statewide, Nehringer said.
