Accused Purdue Grade Changer Connected To 2009 Suspicious Package

Last updated on Sunday, June 16, 2013

(WEST LAFAYETTE) - A former Purdue student who is charged with changing his grades while at Purdue, is no stranger to the law. Roy Sun has been arrested on campus before.

In November 2009, Sun was arrested on a terroristic mischief charge. Police arrested Sun after a suspicious package was found at the Visitor Information Center. Police had to evacuate the building.

Detectives said the box contained a wheel lock, a parking ticket and $20. Purdue Parking Services wrote the ticket and placed the wheel lock on Sun's vehicle a day before the box showed up.

There was a campus protest in Sun's defense. After reviewing the case, Prosecutor Pat Harrington did not file charges against Sun.

Sun now faces 18 charges for allegedly changing his grades from 2008 to 2010 when he was a student at Purdue. Court documents show he changed eight F's to A's.

He wasn't alone.

Mitsutoshi Shirasaki faces 18 charges related to changing grades. Sujay Sharma faces seven similar charges.

The Purdue Police Department had no comment Friday about Sun's previous arrest.
