(BRAZIL) - Authorities in western Indiana have arrested a 74-year-old woman on charges that she tried to hire someone to kill the child her son is accused of molesting.
The Clay County Sheriff's Department said Barbara Murphy, of Terre Haute, plotted with Dale Murphy, 53, during jail visits, telephone calls and by mail to prevent the child from testifying against him.
Dale Murphy has been jailed since December on child molesting and other charges.
Chief Deputy Rob Gambill told The Brazil Times that a person approached to commit the killing contacted the sheriff's department and didn't intend to help with the plan.
Barbara Murphy was jailed Thursday on charges of conspiracy to commit murder.
