(INDIANAPOLIS) - A turbulent weather pattern is set up for Indiana as the same storm system responsible for back-to-back days of tornadoes in the Great Plains and Midwest nears.
A tornado watch was issued late Monday night for much of central Indiana until 6 a.m., and many counties were under a severe thunderstorm warning.
One tornado warning was in effect shortly for Hendricks County early Tuesday morning.
As of about 3:45 a.m. Tuesday, about 19,000 Duke and IPL customers were without power across central Indiana.
Heat and humidity built into Indiana on Monday, with a high temperature near 90.
Ample moisture is flowing into the state from the southwest, setting the stage for severe weather potential.
Much of Indiana is in a slight risk zone for severe weather beginning late in the day on Monday.
Damaging winds and large hail are the primary threat, but isolated tornadoes will also be possible.
A cold front will stay to the northwest of Indiana through early Tuesday.
Severe weather will again be possible on Tuesday and early Wednesday as the cold front sweeps through the state.
The entire state of Indiana is in a slight risk area for severe weather on Tuesday.
