Police Looking For SUV That Hit And Killed Bicyclist

Last updated on Monday, May 6, 2013

(INDIANPOLIS) - Police say a bicyclist who was hit from behind by an SUV has died.

Indianapolis Metro Police are still searching for an SUV that hit 52 year old Earmon "Bud" Hubbard III, then left the scene. The accident happened at about 9:42 Saturday night, near 2600 N. Emerson Avenue.

Lt. Mark McCardia said Hubbard was his riding bike south on Emerson Avenue just north of I-70 when he was hit from behind by the SUV.

Police have one witness who saw the SUV hit the bicyclist. A police sergeant who was also in the area heard the crash and was able to help the victim.

IMPD is asking for the public's help in locating a 90's model green Chevy Blazer or a dark green with tan trim 1994-2000 Ford Explorer. They believe the vehicle went westbound on I-70 after fleeing the scene of the accident.

The vehicle would have front end damage from the accident. They say it should be pretty substantial damage, such as a broken headlight, but not so bad that the front end would be caved in.

Police do have a few pieces that fell off the SUV after it struck the victim.

Hubbard was rushed to Wishard Hospital in serious condition, but died Sunday morning.

If you see a vehicle matching this description, contact IMPD by calling 9-1-1 or CrimeStoppers at (317) 262-TIPS.
