Last updated on Friday, May 31, 2013

(PORTER COUNTY) - A man seriously injured in a motorcycle crash in northern Indiana had been drinking, Indiana State Police said.

At 11:30 p.m. Wednesday night, an ISP trooper responded to a crash on Interstate 94 near State Road 49. Police said the motorcyclist, 41-year-old Duke Dubuque, of Hobart, lost control of his 2001 Harley Davidson. He fell off of the motorcycle and slid across the eastbound lanes of I-94 before stopping on the road's inner shoulder.

RTV6 reports
that Dubuque suffered head and body injuries and he was not wearing a helmet. He was rushed to Porter Regional Hospital and later flown by medical helicopter to Christ Advocate Hospital in Illinois, police said.

Investigators suspected he was driving under the influence after his blood alcohol test read .13 percent. Dubuque was also driving with just a learner's permit. He was cited for both offenses.
