Lafayette Woman Killed While Standing In Her Yard

Last updated on Friday, May 31, 2013

(LAFAYETTE) - Police say a 73-year-old Lafayette woman was killed when she was hit by an SUV while standing in her front yard.

Authorities say Donna Ubelhor was talking with a neighbor when the SUV went off the street on the city's south side Wednesday evening and hit them. The SUV then hit a trailer carrying landscaping equipment before stopping against a fire hydrant.

Bradley Richardson tells WLFI-TV that he ran to Ubelhor's yard but that she already didn't have a pulse.

Police say the 21-year-old woman driving the SUV might have been under the influence of drugs.

Fatal Alcohol Crash Team Lieutenant Sarah Sheppard tells the Journal & Courier the driver was taken to a hospital. She says the man also hit by the SUV was in stable condition.
