Ivy Tech To Open New Campus

(NOBLESVILLE) - Ivy Tech could open a new central Indiana campus as early as fall of next year, following approval of a school referendum in Noblesville.

Noblesville High School is expanding to accommodate the school district's freshmen, with middle school students moving into a renovated freshman campus. Voters approved the two construction projects by a two-to-one margin.

Ivy Tech regional chancellor Kathy Lee says the college had been looking for a way to open a full-service campus to accommodate the rapid population growth in Hamilton County when the school district offered the use of the soon-to-be-vacated Noblesville East Middle School.

Ivy Tech will make repairs, enlarge some classrooms, remove lockers, and convert a cafeteria to classroom space. Lee says the fact the building is already configured as a school will make remodeling much simpler.

Lee says the campus should open in fall 2014 or spring 2015 as the 24th full-service Ivy Tech campus, and the third in central Indiana.

The school system will sell the building to the county for 13-million dollars, offsetting about a third of the cost of the construction at the high school and freshman campus. Hamilton County will then lease it to Ivy Tech for a dollar.
