Holiday World Ride Comes To An End

Last updated on Tuesday, May 28, 2013

(SANTA CLAUS) - The Holiday World amusement park in southern Indiana is replacing a miniature train that was the last of the park’s original rides from when it opened in 1946.

The ride called the Freedom Train since the 1980s was part of the park since it opened as Santa Claus Land near the town of Santa Claus.

Park spokeswoman Paula Werne says maintenance workers found over the winter that the locomotive and coaches were in worse condition than expected and couldn't be repaired.

Werne tells the Evansville Courier & Press that the ride's track is being replaced so another train ride can follow a similar route through the park. That new train should be running in early June.

Werne says the original train's coaches will be put on display.
