(GREENCASTLE) - Fire investigators are looking into the possibility that an electrical problem sparked the blaze that set an historic Greencastle building on fire.
Fire crews fought a fire in downtown Greencastle for nearly three hours Friday morning.
The fire broke out around 7:20 a.m. at a building near the intersection of Vine and Washington, on the downtown square.
Putnam County dispatchers say callers reported seeing fire coming from the roof of the building. When crews arrived on scene, they found heavy fire burning on the back deck of the building.
Officials say the fire broke out at a pawn shop. The fire quickly spread to the building next door, where one family lived upstairs.
No one was injured in the blaze. Seven interconnected buildings were damaged by the fire.
Part of the building was slated for a renovation in the next two weeks. The city received grant money from the state to update the building's facade. The mayor says that money cannot be used for a new roof.
