DNR: No Shark In The Wabash River

Last updated on Wednesday, May 15, 2013

(TERRE HAUTE) - Indiana Department of Natural Resources officials say a report that a bull shark has been found in the Wabash River is just another fish tale.

A photograph posted on a Terre Haute television station's WTHI Facebook page showed a bull shark that the poster claimed had been seen in the river at Fairbanks Park in Terre Haute.

DNR spokesman Phil Bloom claims that the account is a hoax and that there have been no reports of shark sightings.

The DNR has received hoaxes involving wildlife before. Conservation officers last year investigated a Shelby County man who told them he had a photograph of a mountain lion. The species hasn't been confirmed in Indiana, and biologists determined the picture was fake.

The image was posted to News 10's Facebook Page Friday, May 10th. The submitter claims a friend caught this bull shark off the banks of the Wabash River near Fairbanks Park.
