Couple Charged With Abusing Adopted Children Offered Deal

Last updated on Wednesday, May 8, 2013

(TERRE HAUTE) - A Terre Haute couple charged with severely physically abusing their adopted children have been offered plea agreements but are still set to appear in court later this month.

Larry and Nikki Russell were first arrested in November, after a 17-year-old adopted child at their home escaped through a second-story window and fled. The two were accused of locking some of their adopted children inside rooms, beating them and pouring bodily fluids on them. Each faces felony charges of neglect, confinement and battery.

According to court records, both Larry and Nikki Russell were offered plea agreements in early May. Those records also show that Larry Russell offered his own plea agreement.

Larry is still scheduled to go on trial May 20 and is scheduled to appear in court for another hearing May 10. Nikki Russell is also scheduled to appear in court May 10.
