Burglar Beat Up By Homeowner

Last updated on Friday, May 31, 2013

(EDINBURGH) - Police say that Daniel Beeker got a surprise when he broke into a home in the 7400 block of County Line Road in Edinburgh.

The 20-year-old who lives at the home came home and surprised the man.

Police said she caught Beeker in the kitchen, drinking a Coke from their refrigerator and holding the family's flat screen television in his other arm. When he spotted her, he dropped the soda and took off.

When the 22-year-old suspect took off, she followed.

David Lutz, Deputy Chief of Police of Edinburgh, say Beeker ran to get away from the woman.

Lutz says the woman punched Beeker in the face several times after pulling him from the truck he was using to escape. Beeker managed to escape and that is when the woman called police.

Her vivid description of Beeker and his tattoos led to his arrest. Police found him two days after the incident in Westport.

Turns out, officers were looking for a man accused of stealing fuel from a gas station on U.S. 31. His description matched that of the man who broke into the woman's home.

Beeker was arrested and charged with theft and burglary. His bond was set at $84,000.

Police officials said Beeker broke in a window to access the woman's house. He used to work for the homeowner's auto recycling business.

But Lutz warns people should not do what the woman did because it is dangerous, but he does understand the woman's anger.
