Mini Marathon Increases Security Measures

Last updated on Tuesday, April 30, 2013

(INDAINAPOLIS) - Some changes in security procedures will be in effect on Saturday for the 500 Festival Mini Marathon.

The changes come in the wake of the bombings at the Boston Marathon.

Megan Bulla with the 500 Festival says, in addition to increased security personnel on site, organizers are asking people to not bring backpacks to the event.

Bulla says if you want to check a bag at the gear check station, the 500 Festival is asking that you use the white plastic bag that was given out to each runner at the Mini Marathon expo. She says if you do bring a bag to the mini, it will be searched.

Bulla adds that non-runners will not be allowed into the corrals before the race begins.

A full update on the security changes can be found at 500festival.com/minisafety.
