(INDIANAPOLIS) - An Indianapolis couple made a gruesome discovery. They bought a west side home, only to find human remains inside..

Daniel Miller of WISH TV reports that the discovery brought police to the 900 block of Concord Street.

IMPD investigators say the couple bought the vacant home to flip it. But in the process of cleaning out the home, they found human remains. Who the victim is and how they died remains a mystery.

"It was a body in the house," said Ashley Brown of Indianapolis.

Brown is talking about the gruesome discovery of human remains found in this boarded up home.

"I live next door," she said.

Late Monday afternoon, Brown captured a picture on her cell phone of investigators bringing the body out of the home. The house is boarded up, but police say it was recently sold in a Marion County Surplus Sale.

"I came home and it was just police everywhere; crime scene pulled up," Brown said.

Investigators said the couple who purchased the home was cleaning it up Monday when they made the discovery. Police said the human remains were in the basement. Brown said just before officers arrived the new owners were taking out a lot of trash.

"They threw away furniture and all kind of trash and stuff," she said.

Brown and other neighbors we talked to said the home had been boarded up for about five years. Many of them gathered outside Wednesday in shock. Brown said the situation is a little scary not knowing what happened.

"When the detective came over here and just asked you know. How long I lived here that was it," she said.

Right now, police are calling this a death investigation. The body has been sent to Marion County Coroner's office for an autopsy to determine how the person died.
