(INDIANAPOLIS) - Governor Mike Pence signed a bill that will make education more accessible to Hoosiers who served in the military.
Senate Bill 115 unanimously passed the Senate and passed the House with a vote of 97-1.
"Providing Hoosier veterans with better access to a college education will help them be more successful and will improve our workforce," said Governor Pence. "I applaud the General Assembly for passing Senate Bill 115 to help the brave men and women who made sacrifices to protect our freedom improve their lives through education."
Senate Bill 115 requires state educational institutions that have at least 200 veteran students enrolled to establish a combat to college program. Schools will be required to develop a program that will provide veteran students with academic guidance and a job search program.
Senators Allen Paul (R), C. Susan Glick (R), John Waterman (R), Brent Steele (R), R. Michael Young (R), Carlin Yoder (R), Jean Leising (R) and Jim Tomes (R) authored the bill. Representatives Shelli VanDenburgh (D), Dennis Zent (R) and Vernon Smith (D) sponsored Senate Bill 115.
