(CORYDON) - A southern Indiana doctor will be allowed to continue to practice medicine for at least a month despite an investigation into whether he’s overprescribed painkillers and inappropriately touched some patients.
The Indiana Medical Licensing Board agreed Thursday to allow Corydon obstetrician and gynecologist Paul Kelty to continue to see patients but barred him from writing prescriptions for some controlled substances. The Courier-Journal in Louisville, Ky., reports he also is required to have another doctor or nurse present during examinations.
Investigators raided Kelty's offices in February after receiving complaints that Kelty was writing a high number of narcotic prescriptions for Medicaid patients. Some patients also reported Kelty had touched them inappropriately during examinations.
A message left with Kelty's answering service was not returned. He has not been charged.
