Allergy Season Back In Full Swing

Last updated on Tuesday, April 2, 2013

(INDIANAPOLIS) - Allergy season is upon us once again. With temperatures warming up, allergens will be hitting the air causing problems for many people.

Dr. Scott Phillips with St. Vincent Hospital says tree pollens are definitely on the rise right now. He says the recent precipitation has gotten the trees ready to pollenate and we're already seeing medium-high to high levels of pollen already.

Dr. Phillips says we're going to see more high pollen counts here in the next few days. He says right now, we're seeing high counts of elm and maple tree pollen and will continue to see it for about another two months.

He says grass pollen will hit around June and July. Weed pollen will be more of a problem in the fall, as usual.

Dr. Phillips says decongestants and anti-histamines are typical over-the-counter remedies for allergies. He adds you can always visit your doctor for different types of remedies such as allergy shots or allergy drops if over-the-counter medication isn't working.
