Last updated on Tuesday, April 2, 2013

(WEST LAFAYETTE) - A bicyclist appeared to be seriously injured when he struck a CityBus late Monday morning, authorities said.

RTV6 reports that the crash happened just before 11:30 a.m. near Stewart Center.

Purdue spokeswoman Jeanne Norberg said the bicyclist was apparently headed east, off Memorial Mall Oval Drive and that the bus was northbound when the bicyclist hit the side of the bus.

The bicyclist was taken to St. Elizabeth Hospital East.

The bicyclist was later identified as Andrew Fant, 21, an undergraduate student from Chesterton, Ind.

A video taken by CityBus showed Fant was wearing earbuds and had his head down when he ran into the bus, Purdue spokeswoman Jeanne Norberg said.
