Man Found Guilty Of Greenwood Rape

Last updated on Friday, March 1, 2013

(JOHNSON COUNTY) - Shawn Corbally was found guilty Thursday on all eight counts in the rape of a Greenwood woman.

Erin Murphy of WISH TV8 reports that Corbally was found guilty of burglary, four counts of criminal deviant conduct, rape and two counts of criminal confinement.

It took the jury less than 2 hours to reach the verdict.

The victim was present when the verdict was announced.

"It was extremely tough having him in the same room with me, having him snarl at me, look at me. I just gave him daggers right back and smiled just now at him," the victim said after the verdict came down. "I'm sure I'll always have a little uncertainty in the back of my mind. Definitely never thought this could happen to me, so now that it has, you know, you look around your shoulder more and just know that there really are crazies out there and it can happen to you," says the victim.

The trial began in Johnson County on Tuesday . A sentencing hearing is scheduled for 10 a.m. March 18. Corbally faces up to 340 years in prison.

Corbally was arrested last summer after police say he entered a woman's apartment and repeatedly raped her at knifepoint with a knife found in the woman's kitchen. He threatened to kill her 1-year-old daughter, who was sleeping next to her, and her 9-year-old son asleep in another room. She was able to break free after Corbally forced her outside.
