Last updated on Tuesday, March 26, 2013

(MUNCIE) - An Indiana State Excise Police officer was surprised on Saturday when someone approached him while undercover, allegedly posing as an excise officer.

Officials with the Indiana Alcohol and Tobacco Commission said 24-year-old Joseph Louis Garcia, of Muncie, approached an undercover excise officer working Muncie Gras Saturday night.

The legitimate excise officer said Garcia approached him and said, "I'm with excise and I need to see your I.D. now," according to ATC officials.

The officer showed Garcia his police badge and informed Garcia he was an excise officer. Garcia was arrested on a preliminary charge of impersonating a police officer, a Class D felony.
