(COLUMBUS) - A Columbus man was arrested on meth-related charges after leading police on a brief pursuit Wednesday night.

Columbus Public Safety Spokesman Lt. Matt Myers says 44-year-old Brian D. Dunbar is preliminarily charged with possession of methamphetamine, possession of paraphernalia, possession of precursors, along with resisting law enforcement with a vehicle, resisting law enforcement on foot and driving while suspended.

Lt. Myers says it all started around 9:30 p.m. when an officer attempted to stop Dunbar's car in the 1900 block of Indiana Avenue due to several equipment violations. The vehicle fled and a short pursuit followed. During the pursuit, police saw Dunbar throw some items out of the car.

"Those items were identified as pseudoephedrine, which is an ingredient commonly used to manufacture methamphetamine," Lt. Myers said.

The pursuit ended in the 2400 block of Seventh Street where Dunbar got out of the car and fled on foot. Lt. Myers says Dunbar was caught and taken into custody.

Police found a baggie on Dunbar containing a white substance, which turned out to be methamphetamine. Once the pursuit was over, police inventoried the car and found batteries and other things used in making methamphetamine along with some paraphernalia.

Dunbar was lodged in the Bartholomew County Jail.
