(STATEHOUSE) - Indiana’s casinos may not get to add additional games after all.
The House Public Policy Committee voted to remove live dealers for table games at the state's horse-track casinos, commonly called racinos, as well as allowing Indiana's riverboat casinos to build on land.
The committee also amended the casino bill passed earlier this session by the State Senate to remove tax breaks that casino operators had sought and to restore casino revenue that's sent to local communities which house the casinos.
Casino companies and other supporters of the Senate bill say the changes were needed to help Indiana's gaming facilities better compete with casinos in other states, including a new Horseshoe Casino in Cincinnati. They also said it would allow the casinos to create more jobs.
But opponents, including Governor Pence, say they oppose any further expansion of gambling in the state.
The provisions are not completely dead, as they could be added as an amendment before the end of the legislative session.
