(KOKOMO) - Officials say the Howard County deputy clerk was arrested Wednesday after she reportedly tipped off a suspect about a search warrant during an ongoing drug investigation.

WISH TV8 reports, police arrested 43-year-old Michelle E. Ebert on a charge of official misconduct and assisting a criminal. Howard County officials believe Ebert provided confidential information to a suspect.

Our partners at the Kokomo Tribune report Ebert warned the man that a warrant was being issued for his home and that he should, "get out." She reportedly texted the suspect that he was "about to get hit."

Police say they became suspicious of Ebert after they learned the suspect had been tipped off and she was one of only three people to know about the warrant. Investigators say Ebert did not put the warrant in the system, but had access to the details of the warrant

Ebert told police she was friends with the suspect and did not want to see him go to jail. She also told police this is the only time she violated workplace rules.

She was taken to the Howard County Criminal Justice Center, but has been released after posting $5,000 bail. If convicted, she could receive up to three years in prison on the official misconduct and up to a year on the assisting a criminal charge.

Pending the investigation, Ebert has been suspended without pay.

Ebert has worked in the clerk's office for three years.
