Body Found In Creek Identified Is Missing Crawfordsville Woman

Last updated on Sunday, March 10, 2013

(MONTGOMERY COUNTY) - Montgomery County investigators have identified a woman’s body that was found entangled in a brush pile in Sugar Creek on Thursday.

WLFI reports that county sheriff Mark Casteel, after a Friday morning autopsy, says a positive identification was made: The victim is Georgina (Gina) E. Evans, a reported missing Crawfordsville woman.

Casteel said Evans was last seen Sunday evening at Stoney's Bar in Crawfordsville.

Casteel said Evans family members filed a missing persons report on Tuesday. According to family members, Evans left her keys, phone and even her 15-year-old daughter at home. You can read our original story here.

Thursday, Casteel said Evans' body was found entangled in a brush pile near the middle of Sugar Creek, just two miles west of the US 231 bridge in Crawfordsville.

"One of our investigators was actually walking Sugar Creek between the missing persons last known location and her residence and actually located the body," said Casteel.

According to Casteel, it is unknown at this time how long Evans' body was in the creek.

He said an autopsy was performed Friday morning and preliminary results show no signs of struggle, and no signs of foul play.

"Preliminary autopsy results came back that it was consistent with a drowning," said Casteel. "Toxicology results are pending."

News 18 took a trip to Stoney's Bar Friday afternoon.

Workers there did not want to appear on camera, but tell us Georgina, or "Gina" as many knew her, did visit the bar often after work.

Casteel said the sheriff's office has conducted interviews with people who were working at the bar the night of Evans' disappearance. He said both workers, and customers, confirmed the same thing.

"The investigators have told me that she did arrive at the pub with someone else, and then left alone," said Casteel.

Casteel said while they do not suspect foul play, interviews are still being conducted.

He said if you have any information on Evans' whereabouts during the time of Sunday morning through Thursday afternoon, you are asked to contact the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office at (765) 362-3740.
