Vectren Warns Of Fraudulent Callers

Last updated on Thursday, February 21, 2013

(EVANSVILLE) - Vectren is alerting customers to fraudulent callers who claim to be Vectren representatives and then drain customer’s debit cards.

According to a release, Vectren customers will receive a phone call from a person claiming to be a Vectren representative. The caller tells the customer their utility services will be shut off within the hour if they do not make a payment.

The caller then instructs the customer to buy a prepaid debit card from a local store and call the fraudulent representative back in order to make their utility payment.

The customer is asked to give the representative their receipt number and PIN to the debit card, therefore giving the caller access to the debit card's funds.

Vectren does not accept prepaid cards. The company also says they would not ask a customer to purchase a debit card to make a payment.

Anyone who is contacted by a person claiming to be a Vectren representative and asks for similar payment options should call Vectren's customer service operations at 800-227-1376.
