Teacher Shaves Head For Leukemia After Students Raise Money

Last updated on Saturday, February 2, 2013

(MOORESVILLE) - Friday was an emotional day for students at Neil Armstrong Elementary in Mooresville and for their 5th grade teacher.

"We just have to remember to be thankful, because other kids can't go out with their families on trips, and all the stuff that we have, they can't have," said 5th Grader Kariden Jones.

WISHTV 8 reports, Cynthia Walker challenged her class to raise $1,000 for The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

The entire school shattered the goal and raised $2,500.

As a result Walker is now sporting a shaved head.

"I was very moved and again, I was trying to hold back the tears, because it's one thing to come up with an idea, but to actually have to come to fruition, with the whole school donating, it was a group effort, it was very, very touching," Walker said.

Walker is a Colts fan - the fundraising effort was a result of Colts head coach Chuck Pagano's battle with leukemia.
