(HAMILTON COUNTY) - The search is on for a man police believe burglarized dozens of businesses, stealing entire cash registers in the process.

Daniel Miller, of WISH TV8 reports, police say after stealing the cash registers, he usually tosses them along I-65.

Multiple police departments are working this case from Seymour in the south, all the way up to Hamilton County.

Inside the Lincoln Square Restaurant in Columbus, owner Nick Katris welcomes customers for a late afternoon lunch. Early Sunday morning Katris was welcoming police after his business was burglarized in the early hours of the morning.

"They broke the glass door; they walked in; goes back here; grabbed the cash register, cut the wires and ran off," Katris said.

A surveillance camera above the register caught the suspect in the act.

About four miles north of the Lincoln Square Restaurant, police recovered the business cash register off I-65 at an area rest stop. Police believe the suspect is using the interstate to ditch much of the stolen evidence.

"Looking at the suspect, it appears to be the same individual," said Detective C.J. Foster with the Seymour Police Department.

Police released pictures of a break-in at Tools and More in Edinburgh.

Investigators say the suspect also hit three businesses in Seymour.

"The individual suspect has broken the front glass on doors, entered the restaurants, grabs the cash registers and left the location," Det. Foster says.

Police believe the man is driving a two-tone pickup.

Back at Lincoln Square, it's anything but business as usual

"We have to make a change; we can't leave nothing in the cash register; open the drawers and leave it open," Katris said.

Police say the suspect works alone and targets businesses when they are closed.

A police said the man could be responsible for 30 business burglaries.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 317-262-TIPS.
