One Dead, Two Injured In Head-On Crash

Last updated on Monday, February 11, 2013

(INDIANAPOLIS) - Police said one man has died after a head-on collision early Saturday morning in the 6000 block of East 82nd Street.

Ebone Monet of TheIndyChannel.com reports that Shanntel Lewis, 33, and Rashshaad Artis, 29, were driving westbound in one vehicle when Lewis said they were struck from behind by her ex-boyfriend's vehicle several times, a media release said.

Their vehicle crossed the median and crashed into another vehicle traveling eastbound.

Lewis was taken to Methodist Hospital for injuries including a broken arm, jaw and lacerated liver.

Artis and a passenger in the third vehicle involved, 40-year-old Tara Bain, were both trapped in their respective vehicles and had to be removed by the Indianapolis Fire Department.

Police said Artis was transported to Wishard Memorial Hospital where he passed away from his injuries.

Bain, who is pregnant, complained of pain and was transported to the hospital.

Witnesses told police that the vehicles were traveling at a high rate of speed, cut each other off and ran several red lights, the media release said.

"That was kind of sad and it's a little bit scary because it happened at about 12:30 a.m. If that would have happened during rush hour, that would be probably even worse than what happened at that time," said witness Eugene Minevich.

Police are asking the public to help locate the ex-boyfriend, 41-year-old Seantel Mardsen of Indianapolis, to further investigate the fatal crash.

Detectives are attempting to locate Mardsen's white Ford F150 Dually pickup truck that may have been involved in the crash.

The truck may have front-end damage and has an Indiana 2013 license plate #ES844.

There is not an active warrant for Mardsen. Detectives are still gathering evidence and information about the crash and are not prepared to label the investigation a homicide at this time.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at (317) 262-TIPS (8477). Callers can also text "INDYCS" plus tip information to 274627.
