Inmate Escapes From Rush County Jail

Last updated on Tuesday, February 19, 2013

(RUSHVILLE) - Officials are searching for an inmate who escaped from the Rush County Jail.

Tony Shreve, 35, has been an inmate since October 2012 for automobile theft. Now, he is facing additional charges for his escape Saturday night.

Officials say Shreve was a model inmate prior to his escape.

"I guess it just goes to show that you can never be too trustworthy. After all, this is a jail and the inmates are in here for untrustworthy reasons," Rush County Sheriff Jeff Sherwood said.

At the time of his escape, Shreve and other inmate workers were bringing the noon meal into the jail from a delivery van. Shreve then walked to a waiting nearby vehicle and sped off with an accomplice, our partners at the Rushville Republican report.

The accomplice was later identified as 24-year-old Amie Dawn Hernandez. Hernandez was driving a gold 1998 Nissan Altima four door sedan with Ohio temporary plate dealer tag X088925 expiring March 15, 2013.

Hernandez was on house arrest at the time of the incident. She is now facing felony charges as a result of the escape.

Officials say due to the nature of the escape, this is believed to be a planned escape.

Shreve is described a white male, approximately 5 feet 8 inches tall, 140 pounds with blue eyes and short brown hair.

Anyone with information regarding Shreve or Hernandez is asked to contact the closes police station.
