(INDIANAPOLIS) - Indiana Schools Superintendent Glenda Ritz is applauding a move by the State Board of Education.
The board granted Indianapolis Mayor Greg Ballard control over four former Indianapolis Public Schools. The schools are Arlington, Howe and Manual High Schools and Donnan Middle School.
The move follows a state takeover of the schools that got failing grades.
State Supertintendent Glenda Ritz says the move gives the schools a new lease on life. The Mayor's office is working with school turnaround operators and the Superintendent to amend contracts involving the schools.
The changeover will take place after the end of the current school year. Turnaround operators will report results to the Mayor, the state and the school board.
