(GREENFIELD) - Officials say a 66-year-old woman is dead after a fire in Greenfield.

Teresa Mackin of WISH TV8 reports that the incident occurred around 7 p.m. Tuesday night in the 4000 block of Warren Way.

Police say two older women, sisters, were at home on one side of a duplex, along with their twelve year old granddaughter.

When police arrived on scene, they learned one person, 66 year old Tina Klare, was still inside the home. Two police officers attempted to rescue the woman. One officer kicked in the front door of the home, causing a flash over. He suffered from burns.

The other officer ran around to the back of the home and went into the home, where he suffered smoke inhalation. Firefighters said later their injuries were minor.

Firefighters found Klare deceased on the first floor. Her sister was taken to the hospital with minor injuries, while their twelve year old granddaughter was taken first to Hancock Regional, then was flown to Peyton Manning Children's Hospital with serious injuries.

Firefighters said one side of the duplex was fully engulfed when they arrived on scene.

Neighbor Lorraine McQueen said she knew the sisters well, and went to church with them. She described the scene, saying, "About 7 there was a big boom, I walked outside and the house was ablaze... The little girl ran out, my friend Linda was able to get out, but the sister and the dog didn't get out."

Deputy Chief Jason Horning with the Greenfield Police Department said investigators haven't yet determined how or where the fire started inside the home, or why it seemed to spread so fast.
