USS Indianapolis Hero Laid To Rest

(INDIANAPOLIS) - James E. O’Donnell, known to many as the sole survivor of the sinking of the USS Indianapolis, will be be laid to rest Monday.

O'Donnell's viewing will be held at Holy Spirit Catholic Church from 3 p.m. until 8 p.m. Sunday afternoon. Monday, funeral services will be held at Holy Spirit Catholic Church at 12 p.m. O'Donnell will be buried immediately following the ceremony at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery.

O'Donnell passed away Wednesday at North Community Hospital. After surviving the sinking of the USS Indianapolis, O'Donnell served for many years as an Indianapolis firefighter. He retired from IFD in 1991.

O'Donnell is survived by his wife, Mary Alice, four children, and eleven grandchildren.
