Montgomery County Standoff Ends In Arrest

(MONTGOMERY COUNTY) - Police arrested a man following a standoff lasting more than ten hours.

Dispatchers received a 911 call from the suspect just after 1:20 a.m. Sunday.

Indiana State Police said John Blake Peterman, 37, barricaded himself inside a storage unit on the south side of Crawfordsville, near Lagoda Road and County Road 150 South.

Peterman told police he was holding a hostage but did not want to hurt anyone.

The Montgomery County and Crafordsville SWAT Team was activated and established a perimeter around the storage unit.

A hostage negotiator was called in and Peterman told him he was armed with weapons and set explosive devices around the property.

Officers confirmed Peterman's statements, seeing propane tanks with wires running from them places around the storage unit.

The Tippecanoe County Sheriff's Bomb Squad and SWAT Team as well as the Indiana State Police Explosive Ordinance Disposal Team.

Negotiations between Peterman and police continued through the early morning hours, and around 5:30 a.m. a female hostage was released. Police determined a second female escaped the storage unit shortly before the 911 call was made.

The released hostage was treated at Franciscan St. Elizabeth Hospital in Crawfordsville.

Around 11:50 a.m. Peterman surrendered to police without incident.

Tippecanoe County's Bomb Squad robot examined the propane tanks and determined they were safe.

Peterman faces initial charges of Criminal Recklessness and Criminal Confinement.

Peterman was rrested Sunday afternoon without incident.
