Last updated on Monday, January 14, 2013

(FAIRMOUNT) - A 19-year-old man is dead despite the efforts of Grant County deputies and emergency responders Sunday night.

A passing motorist called 911 after seeing the lights of an inverted car in the water along State Road 26.

Grant County deputies found the 2002 Pontiac Grand Prix near 4200 East S.R. 26, and used towing straps to pull the car onto the road. They pulled the man out of the car and performed CPR at the scene.

Emergency Medical Technicians continued CPR on the way to Marion General Hospital, where the man was pronounced dead.

Deputies said the man was not belted into his seat when they pulled him out of the car. His identity will be revealed when relatives are notified.

The Grant County coroner will determine a cause of death.

State Road 26 has reopened to traffic, but several roads in the area remain treacherous with standing water.
