Man Arrested After Shooting At Cat

(LAFAYETTE) - A Lafayette man allegedly shooting at a stray cat was arrested when the bullet struck a nearby home.

Deputies responded to the Hunters Crest Subdivision, near County Road 450 South and Concord Road, around 4:30 a.m. Monday.

During the course of the investigation, deputies documented apparent bullet damage to a nearby home.

Deputies returned Tuesday to question neighborhood resident Derek J. Rector, 24 of Lafayette, Ind.

Deputies arrested Rector for allegedly shooting a firearm into an inhabited dwelling. He has been preliminarily charged with C Felony Criminal Recklessness with a Deadly Weapon.

A resident was home at the time of the incident but there were no injuries.
