Last updated on Wednesday, December 26, 2012

(LAFAYETTE) - It’s that time of year again for the running noses, coughs, and fevers.

WLFI reports, Emergency Room Doctor Alicia Sanders said the cold and flu season runs from about December to February, or even April. She said she even sees some cases in November.

The best way to prevent yourself from getting the flu? Get the vaccination. She said if you can't or choose not to, there are other ways to be proactive. She said wash your hands frequently.

With the holidays, comes family time and being in close quarters with your loved ones. She said to avoid spreading a cold or the flu.. always be conscious of your actions.

Don't share eating forks and spoons or drinking glasses.

Sanders said some other good tips from spreading germs include coughing into your sleeve and carrying hand sanitizer at all times.
