(GREENWOOD) - Greenwood police say three armed suspects held up the First Merchants Bank, 18 Providence Drive, around 9:15 a.m. Thursday.
WISH TV8 reports that two of the suspects dressed in black and wearing masks entered the bank, used plastic ties to bind customers and employees' hands behind their backs and ordered them to the floor.
Police say they communicated with a third person - presumably a lookout outside - over a radio.
The trio fled with an undisclosed amount of cash. Police described it as a "takeover" style of robbery.
Some of the people in the bank complained of some pain from the plastic ties on their wrists.
Several area schools learned of the incident and placed themselves on lockdown as a precaution. Greenwood police contacted the schools and told them there was no threat.
The bank is near U.S. 31 and Worthsville Road.
